We're all busy, so we should concentrate upon those areas which give us the most
satisfaction or earn us the most money. Or hopefully, both!
Now we all know what we enjoy! Unfortunately, it's in our own heads and it's
constantly changing. We really need to keep our colleagues up to
date.
That's the easy bit. We need to know which business lines earn us the
most money. We also need to spot trends in the business and plan for any
seasonal fluctuations. The real benefits come when these processes require little time to administer.
You're so busy, It'll never get done unless it is quick and easy.
Our systems should give us more information about our clients than they know about
themselves. This allows us to plan our workload, market relevant services to them
and most importantly, by adding value to their business, differentiate ourselves
from our competitors.
Reports should be short - no-one ever reads those monster
reports properly.
We should be be managing by exception. Why bother looking at all
the work in progress, when 80% of it's under the control of your
managers and they're doing just fine. We should be concentrating
upon the 20% which are in danger of going awry.
